How Fast a Big Toenail Grows

In a small 2010 study of 22 healthy young adults, average toenail growth was 1.62 mm per month; the great toenail grew faster than the other toenails. The authors noted that the result exceeded older estimates, but the study does not establish a population-wide increase in nail growth over time. It did not establish higher protein intake as the cause.
