The pole over an ocean
The geographic North Pole is not on a continent; it lies over the Arctic Ocean, usually on floating sea ice. Arctic sea-ice extent is not fixed: it changes seasonally and from year to year, so a figure of about 12 million km² cannot describe a permanent condition.
