The roughly 230 strings in a typical acoustic piano pull on its frame with a combined force of about 18 tonnes; large concert grands can reach higher values. If every note is lowered evenly by a semitone, the total tension falls by roughly two tonnes. This is an estimate: the result depends on the particular instrument and its starting pitch.
