Bees and numbers
Experiments show that honeybees can track up to four prominent landmarks on the way to food, while bumblebees can discriminate some sets of 1–4 items in laboratory tasks. This demonstrates limited numerical competence, but it does not mean bees count like humans or can always count to four flawlessly.
Bees can discriminate small quantities in experiments.
