Roman Concrete in the Sea
Some Roman marine structures have survived for about two thousand years. For underwater concrete, Romans used lime, volcanic ash from the Pozzuoli region, water, and stone aggregate. Analyses of some samples show that reactions between the material and seawater formed minerals that may have contributed to durability. This does not mean all Roman concrete was equally durable. The illustration is a synthetic AI visualization.
