Koala sleep and energy saving
Koalas may rest or sleep for roughly 18–20 hours a day. Their low-energy diet is one reason: eucalyptus leaves provide little readily available energy, contain substantial fiber, and include defensive chemicals. Koalas have a specialized digestive system and liver that help them use this food and process some toxins; extended rest helps conserve energy.
