Hanks and Zemeckis helped fund Forrest Gump’s run for a share of grosses

Tom Hanks said Paramount initially did not want to pay for the large sequence in which Forrest runs across the country. Director Robert Zemeckis and Hanks agreed to help fund it in exchange for a larger share of box-office receipts. It was a joint financing deal, not simply Hanks writing a personal check. The film later earned a great deal, but the exact amount attributable to this sequence is not known.
