Edible plant diversity
Earth has thousands of edible plants: FAO cites an estimate of up to 30,000, while about 7,000 are known to have been cultivated or gathered for food. But “we eat only 30 plants” is an oversimplification: around 30 major crops supply most of the world’s food energy, even though people consume many more species.
