Ukraine introduced reusable coupons on January 10, 1992, as a temporary national currency. They remained in circulation until the September 1996 monetary reform, when the hryvnia replaced the karbovanets. Rapid devaluation led to a one-million-karbovanets note; a two-million note was only a design project.
