Does hot water freeze faster?
Under some specifically controlled conditions, a hotter water sample can begin freezing before a cooler one—known as the Mpemba effect. The result depends on what counts as “freezing” and on the experimental setup; research shows this is not a universal rule for every pair of samples in a freezer. [1–3]
The Mpemba effect can occur under certain conditions, but it is not a universal rule.
