Evolution and natural selection
Evolution is change in the inherited traits of populations over generations. Darwin’s theory of natural selection explains one mechanism of such change: heritable variants that improve survival and reproduction in particular conditions may become more common. Modern evolutionary biology also accounts for mutation, genetic drift, and gene flow. [1–3]
Natural selection is one mechanism of population evolution.
