«Війна бродячого собаки»: прикордонний інцидент, а не оголошена війна
In October 1925, Greece and Bulgaria experienced a brief armed conflict known as the Petrich incident or the “War of the Stray Dog.” In one widely repeated account, a Greek soldier crossed the border looking for a dog and was shot by a Bulgarian sentry. Greek military personnel were later killed, Greek troops entered Bulgaria, and the League of Nations helped settle the conflict.
Accounts of how the events began differed: Bulgaria and Greece made competing accusations about the border shooting. Historians therefore use “War of the Stray Dog” cautiously as a popular nickname for the incident, not as an uncontested explanation of its cause. It was a brief international conflict, but not a formally declared war.
