record hailstones
The 1970 Coffeyville hailstone weighed 1.67 pounds—about 757 g—and was the heaviest officially measured in the United States until 2010. It was surpassed by a hailstone in Vivian, South Dakota: NOAA verified a weight of 0.879 kg. For the world record, WMO lists a reported 1.02 kg hailstone in Gopalganj, Bangladesh, in 1986. Coffeyville is therefore an important historical U.S. record, but not the largest hailstone currently on record.
Hail records depend on what could be measured and where.
