A little wonder, every day
Air drag uses much of a car’s energy at highway speed
1 / 2
Driving faster means pushing harder against the air.

At highway speeds, a car’s engine needs increasing energy to push air out of the way. For passenger vehicles, aerodynamic drag can use about half or more of the drivetrain’s usable energy at high speeds, but the share depends on the car’s shape and speed. So “more than half the fuel at exactly 100 km/h” is not universal.
