Time Spent Collecting Water

UNICEF estimated that women and girls worldwide spent about 200 million hours each day collecting water (an estimate publicized in 2016). A separate frequently cited estimate for sub-Saharan Africa is about 40 billion hours per year. These figures use different geographic scopes and periods, rather than describing the same statistic; the current burden varies by country and household.
