Africa and the hemispheres

The Equator and the Prime Meridian both cross Africa, so African territory lies both north and south of the Equator and both east and west of the Prime Meridian. In this separate-axis sense, Africa is described as spanning all four hemispheres. One caveat: this does not mean mainland Africa occupies all four quadrants formed by those lines; their crossing lies in the Gulf of Guinea. The word “only” also depends on the continent model and on whether islands are counted.
