How plants sense their world

Plants have light receptors and gravity-sensing systems that help guide shoot and root growth. They also respond to touch and mechanical vibrations. Effects of sound waves on plants are being studied, but this does not mean they “hear” like animals: the specific mechanisms and ecological role of airborne sound remain debated. [1–3]

Plants sense light, gravity, and mechanical stimuli; hearing in the animal sense is unproven.
