A little wonder, every day

Grafting joins tissues rather than crossing genomes

Щеплення яблуні на другий рік у Яромержі, Чехія; не яблуня на грушевій підщепі / A second-year apple-tree graft in Jaroměř, Czechia; not an apple grafted onto a pear rootstock.

Grafting joins a scion shoot to a rootstock so they grow as one plant. It is not sexual crossing that produces offspring combining parental genomes. Compatibility depends on the particular plants; the relationship between apples and pears does not guarantee a reliable, long-lived graft between them. That combination should not be presented as universally compatible horticultural advice.
