In 1940, Hollywood photographer Whitey Schafer made the satirical image Thou Shalt Not, mocking the film industry’s censorship rules. It gathered things studio censors tried to keep out of official publicity photographs, including a dead man, alcohol, gambling and weapons. The image was not a 1930s Life photojournalism piece.
