From Kitty Hawk to the Moon
The Wright brothers’ first successful powered, controlled airplane flight, in the Wright Flyer, took place on December 17, 1903, and lasted 12 seconds. Apollo 11 landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969—about 65 years and seven months later, or 65 full years (often rounded to 66).
