Falling asleep in 7 minutes is not the norm

Sleep latency—the time from trying to sleep to sleep onset—varies among people and nights. A systematic review of multiple sleep latency tests estimated a mean of about 11.7–11.8 minutes in healthy adults, with a wide prediction interval; this is a specialized daytime test and not necessarily the same as falling asleep at home at night. Seven minutes may describe an individual, but it is not a universal average for everyone.
