In 2019, the Project Management Institute (PMI) published a list of 50 influential projects from 1969–2019. It included varied achievements, from the World Wide Web and Apollo 11 to the Human Genome Project. PMI said around 400 leaders from the global project-management community identified more than 1,000 candidate projects, after which PMI’s thought-leadership team made the final selections. The result is therefore PMI’s curated list, not an independent measurement of the “best” projects.
