Wealth and Partner Attractiveness

Studies of partner preferences often find that, on average, women place more importance on a partner’s resources and socioeconomic status than men do, but these effects depend on context and measurement. There is no basis for generalizing that wealthy men seem “frivolous” to women or that women feel unworthy of a rich partner; those motives require separate evidence and do not follow from general surveys of desired partner traits. Preferences vary by context; stereotypes are not rules.
