Oceanic Oxygen

додаткова AI-синтетична освітня ілюстрація океану й мікроскопічного фітопланктону; не є мікрофотографією конкретного зразка. Автор: OpenAI image generation. Права/атрибуція: звірити з умовами сервісу. Відео/GIF не додано.- `media/nasa-southern-ocean-phytoplankton-bloom.jpg` — NASA Suomi NPP/VIIRS satellite image of a Southern Ocean phytoplankton bloom near the Drake Passage; color composite includes chlorophyll data. Resized only to 1280 px on the long edge from the original Commons image; visual content unchanged. NASA, public domain. Source: [Wikimedia Commons file page](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:NASA_satellite_view_of_Southern_Ocean_phytoplankton_bloom.jpg), sourced from NASA Earth Observatory's “Oxygen Factories in the Southern Ocean.” This shows a bloom, not oxygen production directly. Custom source-based educational infographic created 2026-10-19 and visually checked. It summarizes the fact-specific evidence, scope and caveats from post.md and sources.md; original Pillow illustration, no imported photo assets.

NOAA and NASA commonly cite an estimate of about half of global gross photosynthetic O₂ production coming from the ocean. This counts initial oxygen release through photosynthesis and does not mean net accumulation: respiration by phytoplankton and other organisms, plus decomposition, consume substantial O₂. Organic carbon buried outside the fast decomposition cycle is what is associated with long-term increases in atmospheric oxygen. [1–3]
