Life Under Deep-Ocean Pressure
At depths of about 11 km, pressure reaches roughly a thousand atmospheres. Deep-sea organisms are adapted to these conditions: many lack large gas-filled spaces, and in fish molecules such as TMAO help stabilize proteins under high pressure. Adaptations vary among species; a human without a specially engineered pressure vessel could not withstand these conditions.
