Genome editing
Genome editing enables targeted changes to an organism’s DNA. The technology already has a medical application: the FDA approved a CRISPR/Cas9 therapy for sickle cell disease in patients aged 12 and older. In agriculture, genome editing is being studied to develop crops with desired traits. Potential benefits depend on the specific application and its evaluation. [1–3]
