Singing sands near the Lapinka

Ukrainian popular publications have reported “singing sands” on a spit by the Lapinka River near Nikopol: in their account, a fragile crust formed after rain crumbles underfoot with a whistle or rumble. I found no independent field study confirming this particular site or its reported sounds. The Kakhovka Reservoir near Nikopol largely drained in June 2023 after the dam’s destruction, so the older account does not establish the spit’s present condition.

Local accounts describe singing sand by the Lapinka; this specific site has not been independently confirmed.
