Hearing, voice, and speech
Auditory feedback can help children learn spoken speech, but voice is produced by the vocal folds and airflow—it does not arise only through hearing. People who are deaf from birth may communicate in a sign language, which is a full language, and some also learn spoken speech with early accessible support and an appropriate communication approach. Deafness by itself does not mean a person cannot speak.
Deaf people communicate in different ways; sign languages are full languages.
